I am a senior PhD scholar at School of Geography, Politics, Sociology, Newcastle University interested in the intersection of political geographies of the far right, geographies of militarism, violence and nationalism, and the geographies of higher education. My research spans across political geography and critical geopolitics, and focuses on contemporary Indian politics. I am from Kolkata, India, and I hold degrees from University of Birmingham and Newcastle University.
Current Research:
My PhD project, funded by the Northern Ireland and North East DTP, ESRC, aims to explore the political geographies of Hindu Nationalism within Indian universities. Through ethnographic research, I trace, analyse and theorise the spatial politics of Hindutva within the institutional, everyday and embodied spaces in universities as well as the geographies produced through such politics. I inquire how Hindu nationalism is spatialised, embodied, experienced, and resisted, in and through university contexts. Theoretically, my research is situated at the intersection of geographies of far-right politics, geographies of the university, and a regional specialisation in Hindu nationalism and contemporary Indian politics.
Areas of Study:
Hindu nationalism, far-right politics, political geographies, geographies of university, (anti)fascism
