Electronic Mahabharata

Director: Dr. John Smith, University of Cambridge

Dr John Smith has converted the entire Sanskrit text of the Mahabharata into an electronic format and made it available via the World Wide Web. This permits sophisticated computer-based analyses of the text. In light of the Mahbharata’s use of repeated phrases, the electronic format is proving an invaluable tool for exploring the organisation and complex origins of the epic, including its diction, one of Dr Smith’s current areas of research.
