I am currently pursuing my PhD in History, focusing on Colonial Punjab’s press landscape and its impact on administrative and political discourse. I recently completed my MPhil in History at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. My dissertation, “Indian Press and the Partition of the Punjab,” explored the complex relationships between colonial power structures, newspaper reporting, and public opinion during India’s partition. Notably, my dissertation has been approved for publication and will be released as a book in the near future.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have contributed to the 1947 Partition Archives as an Oral History Constituency Relations Specialist and co-authored a chapter in the pioneering publication “10,000 Memories,” a collection of Partition survivors’ stories.
My research interests extend to the intersection of colonialism, media, and politics. I am also passionate about promoting accessible and engaging academic content through multimedia platforms.
Current Research:
In Colonial Punjab, the nexus of colonialism, media, and politics profoundly shaped public opinion and administrative discourse. My research delves into this intersection, examining the complex relationships between British colonial power, newspaper reporting, and public sentiment during India’s partition. Specifically, I investigate how newspapers influenced political discourse and administrative decision-making in Colonial Punjab during the late 19th to mid-20th century.
My research focuses on three broad themes:
(i) The role of Press in shaping public opinion and influencing colonial policy
(ii) The intersections of colonial power, newspaper representation, and political discourse
(iii) The lasting impact of colonial-era press dynamics on South Asia’s postcolonial history
Through archival research, historical analysis, and discourse analysis, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of South Asia’s colonial and postcolonial history, shedding new light on the complex dynamics of India’s partition.
