The BASAS Master’s Dissertation Prize 2024 is being revised to include dissertations submitted in fulfilment of an MA/MSc/MPhil degree undertaken at a UK institution during the academic year 2022-23 as well as 2023-24.

The deadline for submissions is also extended to midnight Friday, 19th July 2024.

The British Association for South Asian Studies is delighted to announce the 2024 BASAS prize for an outstanding Master’s dissertation on a South Asia-related topic. We welcome submissions in any discipline of the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Judges will pay particular attention to the quality of research, understanding of the topic and field, originality, presentation, and methodological rigour.

Eligible dissertations will be on any topic relating to South Asia or its diaspora, must be no longer than 20,000 words, and submitted in fulfilment of an MA/MSc/MPhil degree undertaken at a UK institution during the academic year 2022-23 and 2023-24.

The successful candidate will be awarded a prize of £200 and a one-year of membership to BASAS. The winning candidate will also receive a complimentary registration to the BASAS Annual Conference 2024. An edited version of the prize-winning dissertation will be considered for publication in one of the BASAS-affiliated journals, Contemporary South Asia or South Asian Studies (subject to editorial consideration and peer review). Shortlisted entrants will be awarded a one-year complimentary BASAS membership.
