Pakistan at Seventy: The Long View

Lahore University of Management Sciences, LUMS, Lahore, April 6-8 2017

CfP open: contact

The conference invites scholars from different parts of the world, and from within the country, who have devoted their careers to study Pakistan to offer their assessment of the progress, achievements, problems, constraints and challenges that Pakistan faces today. Pakistan's journey through the past seven decades presents a mixed picture of progress, difficulties and hope. Pakistan remains a nation and state in the making with troubled legacies and the great promise from its strong civil society, geopolitical location, size of the population, economic potential and rich but untapped natural resource base. The conference solicits scholarly contributions in all critical areas, in every discipline of the humanities and social sciences, on the study of Pakistan, evaluating and assessing its failures, achievements and potential for progress. Below are a potential list of panels:

  • State and nation building
  • Security and foreign policy
  • Development and economy
  • Democracy
  • Contentious politics
  • Religion and politics
  • Political institutions and parties
  • Ethnicity and social movements
  • Culture and society
