MEMBERSHIP

Membership of the association crosses a broad spectrum ranging from professors to postgraduate students, and policy makers to independent researchers. The association is representative of the full extent of South Asia related academia in Britain with membership including individuals from established South Asia centres in the UK as well as academics working in non-South Asia departments. Such a solid foundation in the UK has enabled the association to expand internationally, and encompass growing membership in South Asia, Europe, and the USA.

The association’s ability to comfortably traverse these boundaries has made it a perfect networking hub; rich in disciplinary diversity, an international membership, and a broad range of professionals at different stages in their respective careers.

BASAS aims to continue to build on its foundations and can offer members the following benefits:

  • Membership of the largest inter-disciplinary association for South Asian studies in the UK
  • Free journal subscription to either South Asian Studies or Contemporary South Asia (regardless of the geographical location of the member)
  • Participation at the BASAS annual conference and annual workshop
  • Support from the Postgraduate and Early Careers Network
  • Access to the European Consortium for Asian Field Studies field centres
  • Eligibility to apply for language training grants
  • Opportunity for postgraduate students to enter the BASAS Prize for the best paper presentation
  • Subscription to the BASAS electronic mailing list providing up-to-date information about conferences, workshops, job announcements and more
  • Representation of South Asian studies on various bodies of higher education in the UK such as HEFCE and the AHRC
